Who ever came up with the line "Real men don't cry" obviously has no heart. The feeling I felt yesterday when receiving the tragic news about what happened to Haiti I can not put into to words. A country still trying to recorver from the 4 Hurricanes damaged the island in 2008 in a matter of 3 weeks. I was at work and left to rush home to be with my brother and father. Just days before this earthquake my mom and older brother along with my aunt and uncle went to haiti on vacation to see family. What started out as a vacation does not seem to be ending that way. There's a saying we have in the haitian community that goes "In Unity There is Strength". I remeber telling my brother and father if something happened to my mother there's no way we can survive without her. They looked back at me and did not disagree. 1 in 3 haitians in the island of Haiti have been affected by this. Thats you and 2 friends going out but 1 of you is not making it back home alive think of it that way. We prayed because thats all we could because the phone lines were out in Haiti so we had no communication. The visuals of Hurricane Katrina to Louisiana and 9/11 to New York keeps playing in my head. Its nerve wrecking hearing your cell phone ring but its not the call your waiting for. But I log onto a number of social networks that i have accounts and read all the support my family and Haiti were getting. I felt so much love coming through my cell phone that it gave me the strength to believe that my family was going to be ok. The tears flowing down my face were a symbol of my emotions pouring out of my soul for my country. Watching images on tv of buidings burning and no fire department to put the fire out and oull people. Then at 12:47 am i got the call i've been waiting to hear a call from my mom and confirming that they were ok. Before that call I was acting like my mother i started cleaning the house to take this tragedy off my mind. Another out cry of tears was let out but this time it was of joy. With my faith in God and support from family and friends i would've gave up hope a long time ago. I felt the Unity and it gave me Strength i say thank you to you all. To be the first black led nation in the world and the only nation to gain its independence as a result of a successful slave rebellion required Unity and Strength. I'd like to thank you to those that have already donated or plan on doing so. The fight is not ver yet we have a long way to go
